Breathing And The Effect On The Mind - Part 5

The thing to do in situations like is find a quite space and take a few deep breathes. Unfortunately, we don’t learn this in school or university. Instead, we learn about the outside world: maths and science, how to buy a car and house. Rarely, do we learn about this machine, our bodies, which live with us our entire lives.

The sad thing is this message has been with us for a long time. Most religions have some component of stop and breathe in them. Thus, this information is not new. We just seem to have forgotten it. In addition, most life skills courses also talk about the importance of breathing.

So the message here is I implore you to stop and breathe now and again. Take time out in your day to breathe. The benefits of a clear mind are enormous, and it doesn’t cost a single cent! More than that though, why don’t we teach this stuff to children? Imagine if we had a generation of people that when they felt angry or flustered, instead of lashing out or doing the things that most of us do, they found a quiet place to take a few deep breathes. Just imagine that for a second. Imagine if George Bush and his friends practised this; what if next time they were feeling threatened and wanted to start another war to find weapons of mass destruction in the name of national security, they just found a quiet corner, composed themselves and though, “Maybe all the terrorists aren’t out to get us; maybe it’s all in our heads...”
