Parenting: Building A Life Without Depression - Part 7

Parenting: Building A Life Without Depression So what does all this have to do with reading and depression? Well, reading is one of the exercises that will allow you to build your imagination, and your imagination allows you to visualize and form dreams. Without a strong imagination, you have less of an ability to visualize a life without depression. Alternatively, if I say that in a more positive way, your imagination allows you to imagine the life you want: a happy, fulfilling life with a loving partner, close friends and a successful career.

Reading builds your imagination. Reading gives your mind the strength to hold onto dreams through the good times and the bad. Earlier, I said that imagining what you want in your mind is the first step of many when creating the life you want. In other words, I don’t believe it’s as simple as visualize and you’ll have what you want. It’s only the first step, but what an important first step.

So, I urge you to build a culture of reading. Exercise your mind, and start now. Start when you are as young as possible, because it’s a bigger challenge as you get older. As we age, we get stuck into our ways; things become habit and we don’t want to change. So start now, and build it into your life. And most importantly, create a vision and find some dreams and goals.
