Parenting: Building A Life Without Depression - Part 4

Parenting: Building A Life Without Depression The point to the past few  paragraphs is, we have all these external factors working against us, that can help in covering up (not removing) faults within ourselves, and creating a reality that we can never reach, and thus we can start to create a negative perception of life in our minds.

So what can we do about this? Well, many gurus, life coaches and people who work in the field of assisting others to reach their goals, all say many of the same things. They may say it in a different way or use something else to explain it, but overall their message is similar. They all swear that the first step to creating the life you want is to visualize it. You need to imagine it in your mind first. Then it will come true. So if you want a new partner, you need to be able to see them in your mind, you need to visualize the things you would do together and the experiences you would have. If you want a new car, you need to visualize it in your mind first: feel the wind rushing overhead as you drive down the road; feel the steering wheel in your hands.

Now, I don’t know if there is a cosmic force out there granting human beings wishes. A few years ago, the book and DVD The Secret was a smash success. It sold millions of copies; it was a huge hit, and the crux was, just ask the universe and you shall receive. I don’t believe it’s that easy. Nevertheless, that’s what they said. In addition, I don’t know if there is a god out there. I’m not here to talk about religion. It’s not my place to talk about that. However, from a scientific point of view, there is a lot of merit to all this. In science, they say things like, “Fake it till you make it,” and, “Fake it till you become it.” I most recently heard a woman named Amy Cuddy say this in a talk on YouTube. You can find it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks-_Mh1QhMc. If you have twenty minutes, it’s really an interesting video, please go and have a look. If not, I’ve summarized it below, and yes, that's her in the picture.
