Why is it so hard to adopt a child?

Something that I’ve never quite understood is the adoption process. Trees and trees of forms, rigorous background checks, thousands and thousands of rands, to basically, give a child a home. And yet, two morons can catch a quickie in the back seat of a car and pop out tribes full of children. What’s up with that…?

I understand that there are some weird o’s out there looking to adopt a child for all the wrong reasons (step into my windowless van; that should be on adoption agencies forms: does your vehicle have windows that one is able to see through? That question will catch many perverts). However, that still doesn’t explain why any old Joe and Jane can produce a child with absolutely no restrictions at all. It doesn’t matter if you become a single parent, are an alcoholic or a drug user, work in a strip club or even in porn. Hell you could even own and operate a meth lab and no one can say a thing.

I don’t think we should take the restrictions away from adoption cases—maybe loosened them though. However, I do think that governments should place parameters on people, to stop the masses from just having babies. I don’t know exactly what the solution is, but surely, that makes just a little sense...

It’s a very tricky subject. I mean, how would one go about this? Who would monitor and regulate? What would be the punishment if a law were broken? And many other questions which I could sit here all night and list. I think we all get the point though.
