Determined to be out from under her mother’s ruling and away from a no-good soon-to-be ex-boyfriend, Corey Nolan exercises her independence. With a place to call her own and a job that doesn’t pay well but makes her happy, her life is full and her young daughter is content. There is no room for distractions, until she meets a local firefighter—who stirs an immediate forbidden attraction. In need of control, she tries to ignore Jake Gilroy, but circumstances bring her closer to him when someone is hell-bent on destroying her.

Dutiful playboy Jake is known as the smoking hot fireman. The first time he sets eyes on Corey, he knows he wants her. But when threats and strange occurrences start to happen, he finds the need to protect her and give more than he’s ever given any other woman.

Being together becomes more than they bargained for when their desire for each other becomes a matter of life and death....

Jake slid his fingers down her arm and across her wrist. A spark lit through her. She gasped and her gaze locked with his. She made no attempt to draw away. Corey couldn’t…she didn’t want to.

“How is it?” He glanced at her scraped and bruised elbow.

Coming out of the trance, she lifted her arm and showed him the slight injury. “Oh, it’s fine.”

“I would have been over sooner, but the other guys got you, and I didn’t want you to be overwhelmed.”

Corey couldn’t conjure up a response. What he said, and how he said it, turned her knees to jelly. She felt like the high school girl who was just noticed by the popular jock. She couldn’t stop staring at his soft, dark brown eyes, even though a sensible voice in her head told her to just walk away and forget him.

“I’m very sorry. But I really have to go.” She peeked around his massive chest to the men beyond. “It was so nice meeting you guys,” she called over, waving. She turned to pick up her bike, then pushed it along and hopped on.

“Stop by anytime,” she heard Jake yell behind her.

She smiled but didn’t turn around. Glancing at her watch, she’d realized she was supposed to have started her first day of work eight minutes ago. Fear made her pedal faster.

She hoped she hadn’t lost the job already. But what if she did? How would she pay rent? How would she feed Molly?

1) Wow, comic books. I don’t hear of many comic books outside of the Marvel and DC Universe. Tell me a little about your comic books.
We deal in only American comics, we don’t carry any anime. We sell mostly Marvel and DC, but we do carry a large selection of independent comic book companies like Image which puts out the very popular, The Walking Dead.
However, there is a misconception quite often that Hellfire Publishing, publishes comics. Which does make sense...that is weird business combination that I have never heard of before. Publishing comic books is definitely a future dream of mine. But we put out print and eBooks, mostly fiction novels and short stories. We publish Robin Rene Ray, whose Bloodbreeders series has earned a spot at the Anne Rice’s Vampire Lestat Fan Club ball in New Orleans two years in a row and a zombie tale that landed her a movie offer. Our top sci-fi seller Edward McKeown has done everything from radio to having a TV star write a forward for his upcoming book. Comic Book sales and a Publishing company are great business to be in right now. Cheap entertainment :)

2) What got you interested in comic books and why?
I was one of those tomboys that saved every penny from my allowance and waited patiently each week for my Spiderman comic to come out and would run to the penny candy store down the block before school. As I got older and meaner apparently, my tastes changed to The Punisher and Batman.

3) I guess, we better get onto your current book… So, why did you choose the romance suspense genre?
I didn’t. It chose me. I must just be a romantic at heart. Romance finds its way into most of my stories, but I prefer subgenres of Romance like romantic suspense or paranormal.  However my stories range from horror to self-help and everything in between.

4) Your main character is a Fire Man. Do Fire Men really do it for women? Is it the job, the uniform?
Oh yeah, we like our men crazy and brave. And if you are willing to run into a fiery blaze while very one else is running out, you must be a little bit of both. Oh and yes the uniform is sexy as hell.

5) Haha, your cats sound awesome. A plan for world domination you say… Hmmm, tell me a little about that.
Well I would tell you, but...I would have to bring you in on the plan. But what I can tell you is that Red Velvet Cake is the key. We will use it to lure in the masses.

6) If you could marry a celebrity today, who would it be and why?
Well since, I don’t actually know a celebrity. I would marry someone like Jeffery Dean Morgan or Gerard Butler, someone so hot that you wouldn’t care what their personality was like. Heehee :)

7) If you could meet your president today, what would you tell him?
I would have to avoid him because of that whole world domination thing.
Okay I would ask him why he keeps coming home to Chicago during rush hour; doesn’t he know that he backs up traffic for miles?
Seriously I would ask him what he thought he was going to do to make a difference when he first took his oath and how has that changed now that he is in the oval office and can see how powerless the president of the US really is? I personally how hard it is to accomplish goals when the entire world is fighting against you. So I believe your original intentions should count for something.

8) Do you enjoy working at the mall? Tell me a little about your day?
Well I get up...  :)
Yes, I enjoy the mall. However, I started da column on my blog called Weirdo Wednesday because we get all kinds in here. Not to mention that people in general today have a warped sense of what my being behind that counter really means. In a word, we lack Joy.
I am a nurse, shrink, friend, confidant, Mapquest, change machine and charity giver...apparently. All while I am waiting for people to come in and sell me things.

9) Have you ever been in a position similar to Corey in your book?
This particular story has a lot of me in it. The heroin in Glow in the Dark, Corey Nolan is a bartender and a single mother with a fear of fire. Yet she has a deep admiration for Fire Fighters, they are the ones that keep her safe from her worst fear.  Her daughter is kidnapped twice and Corey is stalked, these are all embellishments of things I have experienced. The only difference in the story as opposed to real life is that I did have three friends that all worked at the same Firehouse. However, I have never and would not date a firefighter. I am truly afraid of fire and knowing my husband ran a greater risk of meeting his maker in blaze of glory is not something that I personally could contend with. But, I have absolutely nothing against a firefighter calendar. :D
